The Treatment: Power Crazy (Frontiers, 2019)

Power Crazy is the fourth full-length album from UK-based hard rockers The Treatment, and once again there’s a change of vocalists. This time around, Mitchel Emms (who sang on the band’s excellent 2016 album Generation Me) is replaced by Tom Rampton (previously with Freeway Mad). The singer may have changed, but what hasn’t changed is The Treatment’s ability to channel the classic sounds of the ’70s and ’80s rock eras.

Like the previous albums from The Treatment, Power Crazy is a high-energy blast of old school rock n’ roll. Rampton has a slighty rougher delivery that brings to mind Glenn Hughes, and that suits The Treatment’s sound perfectly. The album is rockin’ and rowdy like classic AC/DC, but with the polish of UFO and some nods to the bluesier modern melodic rock of Inglorious and Burning Rain.

Power Crazy is one of those albums that gets right to the point and never really lets up. From the rowdy opener “Let’s Get Dirty” to the anthemic (and very Airbourne-sounding) “Hang Them High” to the party rocking “King of the City” and “The Fighting Song,” this is all rock, all the time.

If you enjoyed the previous three albums by The Treatment, you’re going to love Power Crazy as well. It’s also going to appeal to fans of the “new old school” bands like Rival Sons, The Answer, Winery Dogs and Inglorious. Actually, if the classic rock radio stations threw on one of these tracks in between AC/DC and Grand Funk Railroad songs, their listeners probably wouldn’t know this was a newer band.
