Wicked Smile: Delirium (self-released, 2020)

There’s a brand new thunder from down under. Guitarist Steve Janevski (of The Radio Sun and formerly with Black Majesty) has a new band called Wicked Smile. He’s teamed up with vocalist Danny Cecati (who you might remember from Pegazus and Eyefear), and as usual it turns out power metal dudes come up with the best rock n’ roll songs.

Wicked Smile’s 4-song debut EP is titled Delirium, and it’s a straightforward hard rocker like they used to make way back when. Think classic Lynch Mob and Tora Tora – melodic and catchy, but definitely harder rocking than most melodic rock bands. We already knew that Janevski could serve up anything from AOR to power metal, so it’s no surprise he sets up some choice hard rock riffs and melodies here. And Cecati turns out to be a hell of a rock singer.

We just get a taste of the Wicked Smile sound on Delirium, but it’s more than enough to make you want a full-length album. If you like your rock with a harder edge, and miss that classic early ’90s hard rock sound, Wicked Smile is well worth checking out.
